Sausage Skillet
Simple – FAST – Delicious!
Add a can of baked brown beans and you have a great meal when your day goes sideways and you need something fast, yet looks like it took more effort than it really does!
Tip:
Turn your burner on low to medium to heat up the pan. Don’t put oil in it to heat up. Cast iron should be heated before you add the oil and before you add your food. When the handle is hot, (not burning hot) it’s ready to add some oil.
Even though I added oil to the bottom of the pan before I added the sausage, they grab hold instantly and stick! I was on to them and didn’t let go, rather, I moved it around, rolled it over and did the same to the other side, then let it go. I did the same to the others. Nothing stuck!
Ingredients
A package of your favourite sausage.
Sweet Onions
Green Pepper
Salt, Pepper and Garlic powder to taste.
Olive oil
Instructions
1
Cooks sausage in 10" Cast Iron skillet until nicely browned. I cook mine slow. When you add the sausage, to avoid them sticking to the pan, don't let go of them when you put them in the pan, rather, move them around in the oil, roll it over and do the same to the other side, then let it go. Do the same with the rest of the sausages.
2
While they are cooking on low/medium heat (use a screen over the skillet to stop the spattering) slice your onions and peppers.
3
Add olive oil to toss your vegetables in. Season to taste. Add to the skillet with the sausages as they brown. Or... as I did, use separate pans and combine when both are cooked.
4
Remove sausages when cooked, give the veggies a bit more time if required. Slice up the sausage and return to the skillet. Mix together to combine flavours and serve!
